Has spending hours in the bathroom become routine?
Does your stomach get upset at the drop of a hat?
Find out the reasons for some common stomach problems and foods that will help keep them at bay.
Constipation
A low fibre diet (no or very less quantity of vegetables and fruits) and more of refined foods lead to constipation. Not drinking enough water adds to the problem.
Often, you tend to rush on with your chores and control the urge to pass a motion. This also leads to constipation.
Treatment
When you are constipated, eat plenty of salads, fruits and cooked vegetables . This helps retain water and smoothen bowel movement. Vegetables in the form of soups will also do.
You can also eat whole grain cereals and millets like bajra, jowar, nachni and wheat products. Avoid refined foods like wheat flour, khari, bread, buns etc. Among pulses, whole pulses are a better option.
Non-vegetarian items, milk products, fats and sugars do not contain fibre. These food options are applicable to every woman; young or old.
Prevention
In order to ensure regular bowel movements, eat a high fibre diet along with eight to ten glasses of water. A regular exercise routine will also help.
Try and find ways to relax as stress dehydrates the body.
For Pregnant Women
Constipation is very common when you are pregnant. So drink plenty of water. Eat figs, papaya, guava, oranges, brown rice, carrots, beet root, leafy green vegetables, vegetables and aloe vera pulp.
Avoid potatoes, pomegranate, apples, white flour and rice, white sugar.
