However, you are clueless about what they stand for or how it affects your monthlies. All that matters is that it doesn't cause you a royal embarrassment.
So which sanitary napkin is for you? It all depends on your needs. What suits you need not suit someone else.
The best way to find out is by trial and error. But before you do that, here is some basic groundwork that will help you.
What's on Offer?
The four brands that presently rule the sanitary napkin market in India are:
1. Whisper
2. StayFree
3. Kotex
4. Shapers
Whisper from Procter and Gamble and StayFree from Johnson & Johnson have six different products each on offer, whereas, Kotex and Shapers have two each.
Ship-Shaped For You!
Here are the factors that go into buying a sanitary napkin. The order of factors has been assigned on the basis of priority given by users.
Absorbency
Keeping hygiene in mind, you need to change a pad at least thrice in a day, every six hours.
However, sometimes you might be unable to change on time. In such situations, absorbency is important.
Although the brands claim that the napkins have a four time absorbency limit, it is more or less dependent on the flow of each user and needs to be tried out individually.
Size and Shape
Earlier, napkins were rectangular shaped and came in a standard size. There were no wider backs or longer sized ones available. Plus, the shapes were not determined by the body contour of the woman.
However, today there are size and shape specific products available.
Thinness
Remember those standard clumpy napkins that used to make your panties bulge? Ugh! And how conscious they made you feel while wearing jeans.
However, the latest products take that into consideration and come in an ultra thin size, at times even making you forget that your periods are on.
With or Without Belt
Pads without belts are more comfortable and easy to use. The issue of belt and beltless napkins is obsolete as most brands today come in the beltless category.
In fact, belted pads are as good as reverting to using cloth.
Price
If the product meets all of the above criteria and in top terms, then the price in a higher range is acceptable for most. However, economy is the keyword for most women who buy sanitary pads.
So a product that adequately meets all of the above terms and offers an agreeable number of pads, under a decent price tag is the most opted menstruation solution.
