Irrespective of your skin type - dry, combination or oily - moisturising is a must! Even oily skin loses moisture. Make sure you provide your skin with its daily water supply.
A new moisturiser , which claims to be the best, is launched almost every other day. With so many choices, it is difficult to know the right moisturiser for your skin.
Skin Shield
A moisturiser can do a lot more than just hydrate your skin.
When we are out, our skin is exposed to dust and sun. A moisturiser acts as a protective layer against the skin.
It prevents dust from entering open pores. Clogged / blocked pores lead to breakouts and acne. A moisturiser with sun protection factor (SPF) protects skin from the sun's harmful ultraviolet (UV) rays.
Not Without Moisturiser
Dry skin desperately needs to be moisturised at regular intervals, without which it can become prone to wrinkles. Excessive exposure to sunlight, without a moisturiser with sunscreen, can lead to premature aging of skin.
Wear it Right
Choosing the right moisturiser is a little more complicated than choosing your favourite pastry at a cake shop. Since it is important to apply a moisturiser daily, buy one which is made for your skin type.
To know your skin type, conduct the tissue test at home. Make-up expert Clint Fernandes tells you how. . .
Wash your face. Make sure you don't use any beauty product for 30 minutes.
Take a thin tissue and place it on your face. · If the tissue sticks to your face, you have oily skin. If it slides off, you have dry skin.
But if it sticks only on your T-zone - forehead, nose and chin - you have combination skin.
For dry skin, look for a rich liquid moisturiser. It is thicker and provides extra moisture needed for dry skin. Use a heavier moisturiser at night because dry skin needs extra moisture at night.
If you have oily skin, go for a water-based moisturiser. It is light and won't leave you looking like a frying pan! For extremely oily skin, choose herbal moisturisers.
They are light and assist in evaporating excess moisture.
Now that you have all the dope on moisturisers, pick one and make moisturising a part of your daily routine.
The brands chosen for the comparison are recommended by some of our country's leading beauty experts, such as, sermatologist, Dr. Kalpana Sarangi, and make-up artists, Clint Fernandes, Bharat Godambe and Namrata Soni.
They have been graded on a scale of 1-5, 5 being the highest.
