You may think it is a boil, but chances are you have an infection called sty.
A sty is a bacterial infection near your eye lash. When this infection spreads and reaches the root of your eye lash a small lump is formed.
Improper hygiene and especially improper eye care is the main reason you can suffer from stys. Even excess body heat can contribute to the development of a sty.

Boil Versus Sty
A sty is usually formed at the eye lash root and will have a pus tip pointing towards your eye lid margin. The area where the sty has developed will be slightly swollen. However, if it is a boil, your entire eye lid will swell.
If you have a sty, you may have irritation in your eyes because of the inflammation that may be caused because of the infection.

When you have a sty, your eyes may feel itchy and your eye lid may pain slightly. Your eyes may also water. If ignore the sty, the pain will increase.
Treating a Sty
If you have a sty that is not severely infected, you can simply pluck out that particular eye lash. That will remove the sty as well. However, if you are scared of plucking your eye lash, you can go for hot compression.
At home, tie some rice and ghee in a clean cotton cloth and give hot compression to your eye. However, if you are at work, try rubbing your finger against your palm and then place your warm finger on the sty. You can also blow on your handkerchief and place it on the sty.
In fact, you can place your handkerchief under the hand dryer of your washroom and use it for hot compression treatment.
