But when buying your sunglasses, remember that along with fashion, eye-protection should be your top priority.

Why Wear Sunglasses
The eye absorbs all natural light. There are two types of UV rays, i.e. UV-A and UV-B that penetrate the eye. UV-A affects the macula (a part of the retina responsible for sight), while UV-B causes external eye conditions like skin cancer in the area surrounding the eye.
UV rays can cause irreversible damage to the eyes. Constant unprotected exposure to sunlight can lead to:
- Cataract which causes blurring and/or dimming of vision.
- Photokeratitis, which is known as sunburn of the cornea. This makes you sensitive to light, causes blurred vision and even temporary loss of sight.
- Callus on the eye or Pteryguim. Here, fleshy tissues grow on the white of the eye. This can also block vision.
- Age related macular degeneration. Chronic UV exposure may cause the degeneration of the retina leading to poor vision.
- Cancer of the skin including the eyelids and facial skin due to over-exposure to UV rays without adequate protection.
