An old friend whom you haven't met for years walks up to you and exclaims, "My God! You look so happily married! You have put on so much weight since I last saw you!"
As familiar as it sounds, it is something you definitely did not want to hear. But know what?
Numerous women, men too, pile on kilos after they get married. It is an unstated fact. You tend to put on weight after marriage.
Before you get stressed and start putting on more weight, find out the reasons behind post-marriage weight gain and how you can keep it in check.
'Secure' Partner
He is yours. You are his. You are madly in love and are definitely not looking to attract a partner. And that is when complacency sets in. Before you found your life partner, you did everything to look your very best.
But now that you are married, you know he is not going anywhere, right? Wrong.
Your husband won't be thrilled to see you looking unsightly. Weight loss is not so easy. Once you have gained the kilos, it is rather difficult to shed them. Being happily married does not mean that you grab anything edible.
"Don't look at marriage as an easy route to escape discipline," says clinical psychologist Dr. Varkha Chulani.
House Hopping
Now, here is a really tricky situation. Just married, you obviously have to pay a visit to your umpteen relatives.
Only, these umpteen relatives serve you food rich in calories and every other fattening substance on a platter. How can you possibly refuse without hurting their sentiments? Eat in moderation and don't hesitate to say no when you don't want to eat.
"Saying yes all the time to please people is just going to make you self-defeating," states Varkha.
