After skimming through a couple of interior design websites, you decide to go with a low seating divan sprinkled with loads of throw cushions.
It looks real comfy, but is it really?

Back Breakers
Divans, low seating and furniture without backrests may give you that minimalist look but, they aren't practical. Cushions are definitely no replacement for a backrest. They leave you with a lumpy, uneven feeling, which will have you searching for that sweet spot all day.
And if you don't already have a back problem, you are sure to develop one.
The solution is to have a proper backrest and make sure your divan is as per standard size.
Another tendency here, is to custom-make overly broad divans that double up as guest beds. While this may be convenient, it leaves you hanging… while sitting that is. Your knees don't rest comfortably on the edge of the seat and your feet dangle off the side - a very uncomfortable posture indeed.
And how about those slated chairs? You know… the ones with the wooden strips that are typical of outdoor furniture. They may have that breezy feel to it, but the gaps between the wooden strips can get rather painful - not to mention leave an impression on your skin - when you sit on it for a long time.
Then there are bean bags... the ideal spot to lounge around with a cold beer. Or are they? Though extremely inviting, no one can sit comfortably in one for more that 15 minutes. it is also high on maintenance as you have to refill the bag every couple of months.
Delicate Darlings
In cities like Mumbai, where every square foot counts, it is only natural to pick compact, furniture. Those convenient, foldable dining sets seem ideal. Yes, the ones where everything, including the chairs, neatly folds up into the table. But compact isn't always comfortable.
Also, very often, such dining sets are rickety and unless you are built like Barbie, these aren't a very good option.
